DANGGISIO

DANGGISIO (당기시오) is a rock/metal band from Daegu, South Korea, pursuing an alternative post-grunge sound. It was created in 2010 by two friends from a middle school:

  • Seok Byeong Gwan (석병관) – drummer and leader of the band
  • Seo Woo Seok (서우석) – guitarist

The final lineup, which has remained unchanged since 2013, includes:

  • Son Jin Wook (손진욱) – vocals
  • Yoon Min Young (윤민영) – second guitar
  • Park Jong Seok (박종석) – bass

The band officially debuted with the single Rope on December 24, 2015.

After releasing their self-produced first EP Moonlight in 2017, they signed with indie label Sugar Records. Their second EP, Last Dream (2020), features a more Western-friendly direction, with several songs performed in English.

While the band’s activities have slowed since Jinwook began his solo career, the members continue to support him and have performed together at several of his fan concerts.

Son Jinwook – solo career

Son Jinwook (born March 17, 1995) began his solo journey in 2021 by joining JTBC’s Superband 2 (슈퍼밴드2) Though he was controversially eliminated in the second round – sparking strong reactions from rock fans -he didn’t stop there. Later that year, he participated in TV CHOSUN’s Kookmin Singer (내일은 국민가수 / Tomorrow’s National Singer) ultimately placing 7th despite his audition being edited out of the broadcast. He captivated viewers with powerful vocals and charismatic rock performances, earning a two-year contract with n.CH Entertainment as one of the Top 10 finalists.

This contract led to his first solo release, Paradigm, under the Color Film project, and regular appearances on The Nation Calls (2022–2023), a weekly TV show featuring live requests from viewers. This experience expanded his vocal versatility across a wide range of genres.

In 2022, Jinwook also became the 61st “King” of King of Mask Singer (미스터리 음악쇼 복면가왕), winning the show’s 186th edition. Though dethroned in the next round, the performance cemented his reputation as a top-tier vocalist.

He launched his official YouTube channel in 2023, sharing studio covers of Korean and Western songs such as:

Following the end of his contract with n.CH, he returned to focusing on both solo and band projects under Sugar Records. In 2024, he released multiple original singles and made his musical theater debut as the lead in the rock musical Natural Born Idiots (선천적 얼갈이들).

Vocals

The most characteristic trait of Jinwook vocals are very powerful and long, mixed high pitches that go even up to A5. Yet he sings very confidently in lower range as well (down to F2), moving freely in his performances across over 3 octaves, without even switching to pure head voice/falsetto for the highest notes.
Aside from wide vocal range, he’s also proficient in using a variety of different singing techniques and styles including for example: vibrato, riffs and runs, vocal fry, rock style distorted singing and shouts, soft head-voice or speak-singing, what brings a great variety to his performances. Even though singing a number of very different genres at TV CHOSUN shows exposed his abilities to the fullest, he already showed his potential in this field even earlier, while making k-pop covers with DANGGISIO, for example Fake Love of BTS.
