Q. Hello, FIRR! Please greet the subscribers of Kindie Magazine.
FIRR: Hello, Kindie Magazine subscribers.
We are FIRR, a hard rock band newly formed in 2025.
Starting with the release of our digital single High’n’Low on July 15 and concerts in August, we’ll be working hard, so please give us lots of interest and support!
Q. I’m curious about how the five of you, who were active in different bands, came together as FIRR.
What kind of connection or reason made you decide, “Let’s do a band together”?
FIRR: At first, vocalist Son Jinwook wanted to form a band of his own, so we started with members who had performed with him in last year’s Son Jinwook Concert, along with new members he met afterward, making a total of five people. However, Jinwook was so impressed by the musical style and skill of the four members who joined that he decided he wanted to be not just the vocalist of his band, but the vocalist of Band FIRR.
Q. Since the five of you came from different bands, I imagine you’ve created a new musical synergy.
In songwriting or production, what roles does each of you take on, and when do you feel your strengths show the most?
FIRR: Since all five of us came together from professional positions, there was some worry, but our hearts toward music were already united in one place, so it wasn’t hard to get started. Like in bands where a leader leads the group or a bandmaster directs the music, we began working in that kind of structure at first. But now, if we see good synergy or strengths in each person, we work in a way that builds the path together.
Of course, there is someone who acts as a coordinator when there’s a problem to solve or a decision to be made, but because we understand each member’s abilities well, we produce in a way that makes the most of each person’s strengths.
The moment our strengths probably show the most is… when the compliments pour in. (laughs)
Q. Please tell us about FIRR’s first single, High’n’Low.
FIRR: It’s a story about a deep love for someone so precious they couldn’t easily be obtained, told within the life story of a person who has seized the highest place in the world.
In front of that one and only person, your mood can be the highest, or you can crumble in weakness — yet even so, you can’t break free. It’s about an addictive love you can’t escape.
Q. In High’n’Low, love is expressed in a “noir” style, showing both addiction and destructiveness.
What was the emotional essence of love you wanted to express in this song?
FIRR: We wanted to express romance.
It’s a song that conveys the heart of someone who, even in a situation where their place at the top might be in danger, wants to protect the one they love or keep a precious person by their side.
Q. In High’n’Low, the highs and lows of emotion in love are expressed very dramatically.
How was this song born, and what was the most difficult part of the process?
FIRR: At first, vocalist Son Jinwook said he wanted to write a noir-like love story, and brought up the idea.
But the production process itself had nothing to do with that narrative.
Like in the song’s intro, drummer Jung Kwang-hyun suddenly started playing drums, and from there the bass, guitar, and keyboard built on it freestyle to form the framework of the song.
Because we liked that feeling, we added the originally imagined narrative into it as we worked.
The hardest part was that we actually wanted to write the lyrics in Korean,
but the song’s vibe and the way Korean pronunciation fit didn’t blend as well, so we ended up producing it in English, which was a real regret.
So one of our goals is to do more work on it and release a Korean version in the future.
Q. We look forward to FIRR’s next chapter after this first step.
What are your future plans, and what image of FIRR do you dream of showing?
FIRR: On August 23, we’ll have our first performance at the 2025 Ayang Summer Rock Festa festival in Daegu, and on August 24 we’ll perform in TURN ON: the first summer.
Since these are planned concerts, we’ll be appearing with senior artists who will join us in giving great performances.
Beyond concerts, we also plan to be active in more album work and show FIRR in many different ways.
Please look forward to it a lot!!
“Because there’s someone you can be wonderfully captivated by, we can be a wonderful band.
Face is Red, Right? This was Band FIRR. Thank you!”
